Lagrein is an ancient grape varietal originating in the Trentino-Alto Adige region in northeastern Italy. This wine is unique, exclusive and rare. There are only about a thousand acres of Lagrein in the world! Legrein is grown in three vineyards in Paso Robles. It has the complexity of Cabernet, yet it has the easy-drinking-nature of lighter wines. We are consistantly impressed with how well the Legrein varietal expresses itself, just have to keep bottling it!
This wine is strong and full-bodied with a velvety mouthfeel and mid-level tannins. Age for about 5 years to get to a new level of complexity. Although it's deliciously drinkable now.
Spicy leathery dried fruit flavors mix with spicy pepper. Heady notes of black cherry, crushed espresso bean, and spicy black pepper.
Food Pairings: Try with pork chops served with fennel and roasted potatoes. Herb encrusted lamb shank served with glazed carrots. Pair with sheep’s milk cheese like Malvarosa or Pyrenees Brebis, flavored cheese (truffles, herbs, or spices), Feta, Gouda, Bucheron, and dry Jack cheese.
